"Blau machen" is a German phrase that describes a period of time in which one spontaneously withdraws from one's actual responsibilities and activities and takes a day off. This expression means, that you play hooky with excuses and avoid all duties. It is then only a matter of doing exclusively what you feel like doing, for a certain amount of time. I didn't want to withhold this term from the objects of our daily lives, considering what they perform.
Blau machen describes the absence of man and the silence that remains with abandoned objects and places.
